Continuing Professional Development

Remain competent in your role as a first aider, carer or medical professional and ensure you not only are aware of the latest changes and updates in theoretical information, but also in your practical application of techniques.

What is CPD?

Continuing professional development (CPD) is the maintenance and development of the knowledge and skills needed to perform in a professional context. This doesn’t just mean reading about a new subject or refreshing your knowledge of a subject you have already been taught, it involves honing current skills and developing them to a new level or learning new ones.

What are the benefits?

For employees, CPD helps keep your knowledge and skills up-to-date and ensures that the professional standard of your qualifications and/or registrations are maintained.  Completing CPD also helps to build confidence and credibility, allowing individuals to showcase their achievements and cope positively with change as well as to assist with career progression.

For employers, the primary benefit of CPD is ensuring that standards are high and consistent. CPD also promotes greater work engagement from the workforce and a general commitment to job roles. Having a number of employees undertake CPD, whether concurrently or over a period of time, allows for the sharing of best practice and support and can contribute to maximising staff potential, improving morale and providing a useful benchmark for annual appraisals.
